Introduction: Nowadays, hospital wastes due to its dangerous, toxic and pathogenic factors such as pathogenic, radioactive, pharmaceutical, chemical and infectious waste, etc is one of the environmental problems that are of particular sensitivity. Therefore, this study has been carried out aimed to evaluate the performance of Baharlou Hospital for the separation of hospital wastes. Research method: In this cross-sectional study, documents available at 21 parts were used in order to evaluate waste disposal status in Baharlou Hospital in Tehran city during the forth three months of 2017 and first three months of 2018; and by designing and completing the checklist, the relevant information was extracted from the aforementioned sections for detailed observation as well as interviews with the sections matron, head of environmental health unit, head of effacing unit and nurse assistant and then were analyzed by SPSS and EXCEL statistical software. Findings: The total amount of waste produced by the hospital was 243595 kilograms in the forth three months of 2017 and first three months of 2018; out of which 35289 kilograms were noninfectious waste and 208306 kilograms were infectious. There was a direct relationship between how to separate waste, how to inert waste and waste separation requirements with all domains. Also, there was a significant relationship between the variable of waste separation requirements and the method of waste separation with all domains. Discussion: Safe disposal of infectious waste is one of the most important problems of hospital centers. In particular, according to the waste management law, the task of its disposal or safety has been left to the production centers. Despite many efforts to manage hospital wastes, there are still problems that require more attention from officials and greater involvement of the Hospital Infection Control Committee in waste management programs.
